TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei International Book Exhibition (TiBE) concluded its successful six-day run on Sunday (Feb. 26), drawing over 550,000 book lovers. Visitors from around the world shared insights and reflections on the event's significance in promoting literacy and cultural exchange.
Kate Napolitana, a student with the National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLIY) from California, highlighted TiBE's role in fostering a love for reading, especially among children. She emphasized its impact on encouraging reading skills and enjoyment among youngsters.
Sun Richardson, also part of NSLIY from Colorado, echoed Napolitana's views, emphasizing TiBE's cultural exchange opportunities and the diverse literature available, enabling Taiwanese readers to explore different cultures.
Filip Onycher, a college student from Poland, raised concerns about declining reading habits amid digital distractions. He stressed the importance of reading in enhancing empathy and understanding, noting its role in shaping individuals' perspectives.
Danny Beuerbach, a hairdresser from Munich, Germany, shared his initiative of incentivizing reading in his salon to combat excessive screen time among children. He highlighted the need for alternative activities to digital devices.
Olivier Combemorel, a father from France, echoed Beuerbach's sentiments, emphasizing TiBE's role in sparking children's creativity and curiosity, particularly in today's digital age.
TVBS Reporter Dimitri Bruyas underscored the importance of parental involvement in fostering reading habits and praised Taiwan's dedication to literacy amidst global concerns. He expressed optimism for Taiwan's reading culture, citing the vibrant participation observed at TiBE.
