TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Japanese American pop star, Hikaru Utada, set hearts across Taiwan ablaze on Monday (Feb. 26) with a formal announcement of plans to perform in the country for the first time, provoking a wave of excitement among fans.

The singer needs no introduction this year, their 25th as an active artist in the Japanese music industry, buoyed by smash hits like "First Love."

Utada is no stranger to hit songs, as their track, "A Flower of No Color," served as the theme for the Japanese drama, "The Gift of Your Heart" or "Kimi ga Kokoro wo Kureta kara," which was released earlier this month on Feb. 12.

Last year, Utada announced their forthcoming "Science Fiction" album - a greatest hits compilation to be released in April 2024. They also revealed their much-anticipated Japanese tour, the "Science Fiction Tour," which would be their first tour in six years.

In a fitting expansion of that tour, the prolific star confirmed on Monday that the "Science Fiction Tour" performances will include performances in Taipei and Hong Kong. The exact dates and locations of these performances are yet to be officially announced.
