NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 2024 New Taipei Lantern Festival saw attendance figures surge to 560,000 on just its third day. The festival, which kicked off on Feb. 16 and wraps up on March 3.
At the center of the festival is a 12-meter-high main lantern depicting a dragon, based on the "Classic of Mountains and Seas." Enhanced with special effects and changing lights, it has become a must-visit spot for attendees. These lantern displays occur every 30 minutes, allowing festival-goers to enjoy a multi-dimensional visual feast.
The festival, organized by the New Taipei Civil Affairs Department, reported attendance of more than 80,000 on the first day and 130,000 on the second. With the third day falling on a weekend holiday, attendance figures surged even further to over 350,000.
Beyond the main attraction, the festival also invited international artists and indigenous artists to contribute. The activities on offer range from green energy generation and AR technology interactive lanterns, international lights, food markets, circus parades, family theater troupes, and more.
The festival is held at New Taipei Metropolitan Park, near MRT Sanchong Station. Organizers are encouraging the attendees to use public transport to get to the park and have pledged thorough cleanup efforts to keep the site clean after each evening event.
The 2024 New Taipei Lantern Festival is poised to celebrate the joy of the Year of the Dragon and the Spring Lantern Festival, inviting the public to immerse themselves in the glow of lanterns and create unforgettable memories.
