Rep. Gallagher praises Tsai
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Mike Gallagher, chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives' Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, extended an invitation to President Tsai Ing-wen on Thursday (Feb. 22) to 'try her hand' in the United States following her tenure.
In response to the light exchange, Tsai answered in the affirmative with a simple "OK".
The U.S. delegation led by Congressman Mike Gallagher, with members including Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, John Moolenaar, Seth Moulton, and Dusty Johnson, will meet with leaders and officials in Taiwan during their 3-day visit.
President Tsai expressed her gratitude towards the U.S. government and Congress for continuing to assist Taiwan in strengthening its self-defense capabilities through legislation like the National Defense Authorization Act.
She also outlined her appreciation for the committee's endorsement of Taiwan policy in the reports that have been presented.
While exchanging views on cross-strait issues, Gallagher noted observations from the presidential elections that concluded last month.
The Congressman revealed that after contemplating how rare it was for a single party to win the presidential election three times consecutively while on his flight to Taiwan, he came to the conclusion that it signified "President Tsai's leadership and vision in recent years have been seen and recognized in Taiwan."
During his three-day visit, Gallagher will meet with Vice President-elect Lai Ching-te and Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu.
