KEELUNG (TVBS News) — Thick fog temporarily closed Keelung Harbor on Thursday (Feb. 22), and the Central Weather Administration (CWA) explained that it was due to an approaching front on the north coast, low clouds appeared near the harbor, reducing visibility to between 1.1 and 1.2 kilometers.
The fog also decreased visibility around the harbor and nearby national freeways. However, as the northeastern wind strengthens, the weather will become cloudier and rainy, improving visibility.
The Port of Keelung Taiwan International Ports Corporation, LTD stated that due to the inability to visually confirm the Keelung Harbor breakwater red and green lighthouse through the thick fog, visibility was less than 220 meters, meeting the criteria for temporarily suspending ship entry and exit. As a result, the control operation for applications to enter and exit the harbor was temporarily stopped starting at 7:05 a.m.
At 8:04 a.m., the fog in Keelung Harbor dissipated, meeting the criteria for lifting the control. The harbor began to resume the operation of applications for ships to enter and exit.
The company added that during the fog control period from 7:05 a.m. to 8:04 a.m., there was one inbound ship affected, but no outbound ships were impacted.
