AIT confirms US delegation will meet with Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) confirmed Thursday (Feb. 22) that the U.S. delegation led by Congressman Mike Gallagher is scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, President-elect Lai Ching-te and Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu.

During the 3-day visit in Taiwan, from Feb. 22 to 24, Gallagher plans to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security, investment, and other significant topics with Taiwan's leaders and representatives of civil society.

The visit is part of a larger tour of the Indo-Pacific region.

Gallagher, chairman of the U.S. Select Committee on the CCP, had previously hinted at his planned visit to Taiwan in late January, but the dates had not been determined until now.

The Congressman has been secretive about previous trips, including one that took place from Feb. 17 to Feb. 20 last year but was only confirmed later by the foreign ministry.

The AIT stated that such visits by U.S. officials help boost relations and facilitate mutual understanding between both countries.

It further emphasized the importance of addressing regional security and economics-related matters between the two nations.
