Japan Airlines resumes dedicated cargo flights to Taiwan

TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Japan Airlines re-launched its freighter cargo service to Taiwan on Monday night (Feb. 19), and the first flight arrived at Taoyuan International Airport at 6:16 p.m., marking a first in 14 years.

This revival replaces the past model of only using passenger flights to transport goods, with future flights operating on a permanent schedule.

For this historic occasion, the airline invited key personnel such as Takashi Hattori, Chief Deputy Representative of the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, and Shiao-lun Fan, the President of Taoyuan International Airport Corp. (TIAC) Fan Hsiao-lun, to bear witness.

The company is using a converted Boeing 767-300ER airliner for its operations. The re-launch is principally due to the forecast of a long-term increase in air transport between Japan and Taiwan.

Japan Airlines stated the reactivation of this service will bolster cargo transport between Japan and Taiwan. The strategy is to seek stable demand for cargo partners to enhance the utilization of aircraft and cargo loading.

The move demonstrates the company's faith in the long-term growth of the air freight market between the two countries.
