TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Wang Cheng-hsu, successor to former Legislative Speaker You Si-kun’s legislator-at-large position, was sworn in as a legislator in Taiwan's legislative Yuan on Monday (Feb. 19), with a vow to enhance and assist the health of the Taiwan people.

You resigned as a legislator-at-large for the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) after failing to secure re-election as head of the parliament on Feb. 1.

Wang, the chairman of The Hope Foundation for Cancer Care and a healthcare expert, took the oath of office in a ceremony overseen by Grand Justice Tsai Tzung-jen. Also in attendance were Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu, Deputy Speaker Johnny Chiang, and DPP caucus whip Ker Chien-ming.

In an interview, Wang underscored that President-elect Lai Ching-te has high expectations for the improvement of the health of the Taiwan people, and he will strive to meet these aspirations.

When asked whether he would join the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee and aspire to be its convener, Wang stated that his healthcare background made him well-suited to the committee and considered it his preferred choice. He also mentioned that the convener is his objective.

Former Legislator Chiu Tai-yuan opined that the healthcare environment needs to be improved to provide better public healthcare. He believes that with Wang’s professional background in healthcare and his kindheartedness, the medical community will fully support Wang in his role as a guardian of people's health in the future.
