TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) chairman Ko Wen-je on Thursday (Feb. 15) termed talk of a blue-white coalition for the 2026 local elections as "too early." Speculation abounds as the TPP may field eight legislators-at-large in the 2026 local government elections.

Further rumblings within political circles suggest TPP's legislator Huang Shan-shan is poised to run for Taipei mayor and Legislator Huang Kuo-chang for the New Taipei City chief. Legislator Chang Chi-kai is considered a potential contender for Chiayi City mayor. Legislator Lin Kuo-cheng is also eyed to challenge the Pingtung County magistrate race.

Ko emphasized that there are 22 counties and cities in Taiwan, and discussing matters for 2026 is premature in 2024. The scenario is fluid with the potential for significant changes, he added.

When probed about a possible blue-white collaboration in 2026, Ko responded, "Today is February 2024, asking about November 2026 is too early."
