Taichung pork tests positive for lean meat powder: FDA (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed on Wednesday (Feb. 7) the detection of Cimbuterol, commonly known as "lean meat powder," in pork sample sent by the Taichung Office of Food and Drug Safety.

FDA Director Wu Shou-mei announced that upon testing the Taichung sample thrice, it registered 0.0013ppm, 0.0014ppm, and 0.0014ppm respectively, thereby confirming traces of Cimbuterol at 0.001ppm.

However, Wu urged the public to purchase pig meat during the Lunar New Year festivities without fear by noting that only one package tested positive and its trace levels were very low.

Further test results will be released after the holiday, she added.

Before sending the remaining pork slices to the FDA for confirmation a dary earlier, the Taichung office found TaiSugar frozen pork slices tested positive for Cimbuterol last week, drawing immediate rebuttal from the Ministry of Agriculture, insisting zero traces were found in the tests.
