TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vietnam's oyster exports surged by 56% in 2023 to exceed US$14 million, with Taiwan accounting for over 77% of Vietnamese oyster exports, a year-on-year increase of 26%.

This is according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), which also stated that in 2023, the export value of Vietnamese shellfish products reached US$127 million, a yearly decline of 12%.

Main shellfish exports from Vietnam include clams at 62%, snails at 12%, and oysters at 11% of the total.

However, despite decreases in the export of Vietnamese clams and snails, oyster exports surged remarkably. Taiwan alone accounted for more than three-quarters of this, amounting to almost US$11 million.

Other significant markets for Vietnamese oysters include Laos, Cambodia, and Japan.

Clams are Vietnam's most crucial shellfish export, with the 2023 export value nearing US$79 million, a 17% dip from the previous year.

This decline is mainly attributed to a significant reduction in imports by key markets Spain and Italy, which decreased by 15% and 36% respectively.
