Northern Taiwan braces for chilly Lunar New Year‘s Eve (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Weather experts said on Monday (Feb. 5) that northern Taiwan should prepare for cooler, rainy weather ahead of Lunar New Year's Eve, followed by clear skies from New Year's Day through the fifth day of the new year.
Daniel Wu, adjunct associate professor at the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at National Central University, stated that temperatures would start to fall steadily from Wednesday, becoming colder as New Year's Eve approaches.
The chilling air mass is most likely to originate from the continent's cold air cluster, possibly dipping below 10 Celsius degrees, he noted.
Wu said that conditions would gradually improve to partly sunny beginning this morning, with a chance of local brief rain in the eastern half of the island. Temperatures ranged from 12 to 19 degrees in the north, 13 to 25 in the central region, 16 to 29 in the south, and 15 to 26 in the east.
The latest simulations show that on New Year's Day (Feb. 10), the weather will turn clear and dry. The morning of the next day (Feb. 11) will see temperatures fall to their lowest. Some flat areas may see temperatures drop below 10 degrees.
