Legislative Yuan kicks off with oath-taking ceremony (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The 11th session of the Legislative Yuan officially began on Thursday (Feb. 1) as legislators reported for duty and took their oaths of office. The swearing-in ceremony, overseen by Grand Justice Lu Tai-lang, began at 9:37 a.m.
Before their inauguration, the legislators gathered in the chamber for group photos and exchanged congratulations. In accordance with the Oath Act, the legislators took their oaths by raising their right hands toward the national flag and a portrait of the country's founding father.
After the oaths, each member of the legislative body signed their pledge. The Legislative Yuan's personnel office collected these signed affirmations and then sent them to the Judicial Yuan for record-keeping. Following the ceremony, a group photo was taken to commemorate the occasion in front of the chamber.
The inaugural day's events also include a vote for the speaker of the Legislative Yuan. The counting of votes is expected to commence at noon. This represents the first duty of the freshly sworn lawmakers, marking the beginning of their tenure.
The solemn ceremonies held on the first day of February remind legislators of their responsibilities and commitments as representatives of the people to enact legislation accordingly.
