Grieving family demands justice at student’s funeral

NEW TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The funeral ceremony of a middle school student stabbed by a schoolmate was held at a Banqiao funeral parlor on Thursday (Jan. 25).

The bereaved family, expressing their sorrow, made a statement through the school demanding reform in the judiciary system. The family sought prompt trial and severe punishment for the offender, hoping to establish a norm of "life for a life."

In their statement, the family detailed the brutal incident, mentioning cardiac arrest prior to arrival at the hospital, open-heart surgery, declaration of death the following day, forensic examination, and autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

They pleaded for just and stiff penalties for both the perpetrator and abettor to ensure justice.

The family voiced skepticism towards the judiciary mechanism, particularly critical of its treatment of offenders, and expressed their deep regret.

They indicated that their daughter (the sister of the deceased), who was dependent on the deceased and incapable of caring for herself, is now left to manage on her own.

The family appreciated the assistance rendered by kind-hearted individuals, which has been of great help in taking care of the dependent sister while managing the affairs after the child's death.
