TAIPEI (TVBS News) — American multinational technology company Apple announced Wednesday (Jan. 24) the launch of its dedicated classical music app in Taiwan, named Apple Music Classical. Subscribers of Apple Music can download and use it for free.
The app was initially rolled out in March last year, but at that time, it did not support users in Taiwan. Now, with its debut in Taiwan, music enthusiasts in the country can relish a novel experience.
The premiere Apple Music Classical provides more than 5 million songs and compositions, allowing users to immerse themselves in a unique way of experiencing classical works through the app's spatial audio function.
Its interface can display information such as the name of the work, orchestra, conductor, performers, and recording year all at once. In addition, it offers hundreds of curated playlists, thousands of exclusive recordings, composer biographies, and in-depth guides to significant works.
The launch is one of many measures Apple has taken to expand its streaming service ecosystem. Apple Music chief Oliver Schusser shared his belief that classical music forms the foundation of all genres. However, the previous streaming experience for musicians and fans lacked excellence. Schusser expressed confidence that Apple Music Classical would solve this issue.
The component of services has always contributed heavily to Apple's growth. According to its fourth-quarter earnings report for the fiscal year ending in September 2023, the services department, which includes products like Apple Music and iCloud, recorded a revenue surge of 16% year-on-year, hitting an all-time high of US$22.3 billion.
