TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan President-elect Lai Ching-te of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) visited the Legislative Yuan on Tuesday (Jan. 23) in his capacity as party chairman to participate in the "New Legislator Consensus Camp" to give words of encouragement to new legislators.

With the new legislature set to take office on Feb. 1, and Lai set to take office on May 20, he stressed that he would not personally steer the playing field but would maintain a neutral stance in the legislature.

He shared his past experiences and strategies from when he held the position of DPP caucus head in dealing with various political situations. He also shared the painful experiences he had gone through during his tenure.

Hailed as the strongest caucus director during his tenure in the Legislative Yuan, Lai gave three suggestions to the new legislators.

First, the newcomers need to become a new force for the nation and serve as bridges between the country, government, and people.

Second, Lai stressed that the new legislators should not forget their initial aspirations but should focus on their professional duties to realize their ideals, which align with the goals of the "Consensus Camp."

Third, he emphasized the importance of new lawmakers working cooperatively with the party caucus in order to advance national development goals.

Lai underscored the Legislative Yuan as a place of teamwork, requiring all new members to collaboratively work towards advancing national progress.

Through Legislative Yuan Speaker You Si-kun and caucus whip Ker Chien-ming's sharing of experiences, Lai hopes to guide the new legislators in effective governance and realizing ideals in Congress.
