Taiwan braces for a chilly week ahead with snow predictions (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — WeatherRisk meteorologist Ke Yu-ning on Thursday (Jan. 18) stated that fair weather is expected through Friday, but cooler, wetter conditions are set to follow starting Saturday and continuing through next Wednesday.
Ke anticipated Thursday's temperatures to continue climbing across Taiwan, with an increase in cloud cover in mountainous areas. Coastal areas' high temperatures will likely drop 1-2 degrees on Friday, while inland regions will continue to enjoy warm weather, and the chance of rain is relatively high from eastern parts to Hengchun Peninsula.
The weather front expected to pass over Taiwan has been delayed, now forecasted from Saturday morning through Sunday morning. Ke predicted that northern temperatures will fall from 16-21 degrees to 14-17 degrees over the weekend and into next week, while temperatures in central and southern regions will decrease by 1-2 degrees daily.
Ke noted that a significant temperature drop is expected to occur on Monday and Tuesday, with the coldest weather expected Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning when temperatures are projected to fall to around 9-10 degrees Celsius in most urban areas. Despite a slight warming during the day on Wednesday, conditions will remain largely chilly.
Additionally, Ke disclosed that high-altitude regions may experience snowfall next week. As cold air diminishes, the snowfall altitude might slightly increase to 2500 meters. From Monday evening through Thursday, temperatures in these areas may approach or drop to freezing, creating the opportunity for snow.
