TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Foxsemicon Integrated Technology Inc., a semiconductor entity of Hon Hai Technology Group, saw a 2.3% drop in stock price on Wednesday (Jan. 17). This followed the company's announcement of a cyberattack that threatened job security for its employees.
A day before, the company's website had been hacked and a message was posted on the homepage. "If your management does not contact us, you will lose your job, as we can destroy Foxsemicon with no possibility of recovery," it said.
According to reports, the hackers claimed to hold 5TB of sensitive internal data of Foxsemicon, which also included customer information. This data had also been encrypted by the hackers within the company's system.
In response, Foxsemicon confirmed the intrusion and announced it has fully activated its defense mechanism and is implementing recovery operations. Despite these measures, several pages on the official website were still inoperable as of Wednesday morning, according to media reports.
Following the attack, the stock price fell from NT$210 to NT$205 after the stock market opened on Wednesday. However, by 9:28 a.m., the stock had rebounded to NT$207.
