Taiwan collects NT$392M for Japan earthquake relief (AP)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) announced on Monday (Jan. 15) that they have received close to 120,000 donations, totaling over NT$392 million for the "Noto Peninsula disaster relief fund."
A 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit the Noto Peninsula in Japan on New Year's Day 2024. The specialized account set up by the MOHW for assistance and reconstruction efforts in Japan will continue to accept donations until Friday, with only three days left.
The Department of Social Assistance and Social Work, under the MOHW, has been accepting contributions since Jan. 5.
The public can donate through various channels, including convenience stores and bank transfers. The collected funds will be handed over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for disaster relief.
For donor transparency and tax purposes, the MOHW has set up a service website where people can fill out their relevant information after donating.
