TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) legislative candidate Wang Hung-wei expressed concerns on Saturday (Jan. 13) about the impact of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Lai Ching-te's presidential election win on U.S., Taiwan, and China relations.

Wang highlighted the significant message Lai's victory sends about cross-strait ties. She believes Lai, leaning towards the U.S., could destabilize the Taiwan Strait.

The election results on Saturday showed DPP candidates receiving over 5.58 million votes, TVBS reported. Wang questioned Lai's public opinion base and his ability to manage Taiwan Strait relations and geopolitical tensions after his May inauguration.

She fears Lai's over-reliance on the U.S. and compared him to President Tsai, labeling Lai as more likely to create turmoil.

With KMT's presidential and vice-presidential candidates securing about 4.66 million votes, Wang reflected on the election's broader implications. She voiced her belief that Lai's election introduces significant uncertainties in the Taiwan Strait, a region already considered tense globally.
