KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — National Taiwan University's former president, Kuan Chung-ming, came out in Kaohsiung on Sunday (Jan. 7) afternoon to support Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih, criticizing the social issues of Taiwan under the rule of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

Hou was holding a rally attended by thousands at Dream Mall in Kaohsiung, as part of his campaign for the presidential election. Kuan accused the DPP of damaging academic freedom and the lack of moral integrity.

Publicly, Kuan urged his supporters to vote for Hou Yu-ih for the presidency. According to Kuan, a leader must be honest, broad-minded, and courageous. He praised Hou's past when he fearlessly confronted bandits, calling him a leader the people can trust.

Kuan disagreed with the statements of DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-Te, saying that his criticism of the Constitution of the Republic of China proves him unfit for the presidency.

Kuan discussed his career, from his time as a government official to the head of NTU, marking the first anniversary of his departure from the university. Kuan shared no ambitions or expectations for the future but stressed, "Taiwan must be secure, the youth must have a future, and the people must be happy," and hoped the public would support Hou Yu-ih as president wholeheartedly.
