TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) vice-presidential candidate Cynthia Wu stated on Sunday (Jan. 7) during a media interview before street canvassing in Taichung that security measures would be reinforced.

This pledge is in response to an incident where an individual was caught with an air gun at a TPP rally in Taichung the previous day.

Wu’s visit to the central Taiwan city comes after TPP presidential candidate Ko Wen-je held rallies there for two consecutive days. Starting from the TPP's Taichung branch, she rallied through the Nantun District to Dakeng in Beitun District and paid homage at Wanhe Temple in Nantun. In the afternoon, her campaign trail proceeded to Nantou County.

When asked about the chants of "Abandon the Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih, Support Ko Wen-je" at the previous night's rally, Wu expressed that election campaigning is very tough, and everyone should encourage and support each other.

Wu's final stop in Taichung was Wanhe Temple, where she was accompanied by Hsiao Ching-chieh, the temple's chairman, for her prayers and blessings.

As Wu took photos with supporters in the temple's courtyard, a vehicle carrying KMT legislative candidate Liao Wei-hsiang passed by, and TPP's Taichung branch director, Chiang He-shu, greeted him. Chiang stated that collaboration between the TPP and KMT has always been the pursuit in Taichung, urging them to move towards a common goal together.
