Taiwan Railway boosts service for Lunar New Year rush (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Railway Corporation (formerly, the TRA) announced Thursday (Jan. 4) plans to meet the Lunar New Year travel demand by increasing schedules from Feb. 6-15, adding 234 train runs across all lines — a 6% capacity increase.
Compared with the 2023 Lunar New Year holiday, an average of 7,994 seats per day will be added, boosting the seat-kilometer capacity by 791,645. Eight additional trains will be under real-name registration on the Eastern Main Line on Feb. 7, 8, 13, and 14, and two red-eye trains on Feb. 7 and 13, with 30% off discounts.
From Feb. 7 to 15, the cross-line numbered trains between Changhua and Hualien will increase by 16. From Feb. 8 to 14, the Huokou-Taitung cross-line express trains will be raised to 14.
Reservations for regular numbered trains will be open on Jan. 9, next Tuesday, and holiday goers can reserve tickets before Feb. 15.
Tickets for the soon-to-be-increased 8 Tze-Chiang limited express trains on the Eastern Main Line will be available starting Jan. 11.
Family cabin tickets will be suspended from Feb. 6 to 15 to aid travel and replaced with general cabin tickets.
Furthermore, Taiwan Railway Corporation has eased the process for those with identification cards beginning with U or V who registered residence in Hualien County and Taitung County before Aug. 1, 2022, along with their spouses and direct relatives. They can use real-name registration to reserve Tze-Chiang train tickets as well.
The railway corporation's official website and ticketing app "Taiwan Railway e-booking" are now facilitating inquiries about the extra train services available from Jan. 5.
