TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ko Wen-je, the presidential candidate of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), voiced support on Saturday (Dec. 30) for President Tsai Ing-wen's foreign policy initiatives but rejected her domestic policy agenda.

During the televised presidential candidate debate earlier that day, Ko answered inquiries about Taiwan-U.S. relations, asserting that Taiwan must seek its own standing within the framework of the U.S.-China confrontation.

Ko referred to former U.S. President Trump's attempt to decouple from China after taking office and quoted U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken — "the U.S. approach to China will be competitive when it should be, collaborative when it can be and adversarial when it must be."

Before the debate began, Ko, accompanied by his spouse Chen Pei-chi, sported a black suit paired with a purple polka dot tie and wore a Republic of China national emblem and KP badge on his chest.
