SEOUL (TVBS News) — South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun was found deceased in his car on Wednesday (Dec. 27), shocking the South Korean entertainment industry.
Upon the announcement of Lee Sun-kyun's passing, upcoming promotional events and meetings with filmmakers for the movie "12.12: The Day" — starring Jung Woo-sung and Hwang Jung-min — have been canceled. Marketers expressed hope that audiences would understand the decision.
A public press conference for the South Korean drama "Marry My Husband," starring Park Min-young, was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. However, due to the tragic news about Lee, the event has been postponed until Jan. 1, 2024.
Lee's projects, "Silence" and "The Land of Happiness," may now face delays following his death. "Silence," produced with a budget of KRW 18 billion (approximately NT$470 million), had been invited to the Cannes Film Festival and was originally scheduled for release later this year or early next year.
"The Land of Happiness" cost KRW 9 billion (around NT$234 million) to produce. The film has been completed, with release times under consideration.
Following allegations of Lee's drug use, film distributors planned on waiting for the investigation's outcome before deciding on the release date. However, after Lee's death, the timeline for these plans has become increasingly uncertain.
