Hou Yu-ih highlights public childcare achievements (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih highlighted his achievements in public childcare in New Taipei City during a policy presentation on Tuesday (Dec. 26).
He emphasized that the city established 121 public childcare facilities, surpassing the combined number in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Hsinchu.
Hou criticized his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) opponent, Lai Ching-te, questioning the feasibility of Lai's proposal for the nation to fund childcare for children up to age 22 without concrete action. Hou stated, "Caring for children requires more than words."
He also raised concerns about Lai's commitments to waiving high-school fees and providing university subsidies, pointing out that these proposals emerged only during the election campaign, suggesting a lack of responsibility toward young citizens.
Hou further noted that during Lai's tenures as mayor of Tainan and premier, no social housing plans were developed, making Tainan the only major Taiwanese city without social housing.
In contrast, Hou highlighted the completion of 11,000 social housing units in New Taipei City during his leadership.
