TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ko Wen-je, Taiwan People's Party's presidential candidate, on Tuesday (Dec. 26) criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Kuomintang (KMT) for their lack of long-term vision and planning in economic policy.

Ko pointed out that since 2000, Taiwan's GDP has grown by 120%, but citizens' real wages have only increased by 4%, and Taiwan's total working hours rank sixth globally.

He believes that Taiwanese people's low wages and poor living conditions are not their fault but are due to the lack of global strategic planning by the Taiwanese government."

Highlighting the word of the year chosen by Taiwanese people in 2023 is "shortage," Ko further questioned the DPP and KMT, saying, "I wonder what keyword might define 2024 if they continue to be the ruling party."

Ko asserted that it's time for a change in leadership and suggested that he should be elected president in 2024 to combat these ongoing issues, by emphasizing the government's absence of comprehensive strategic planning as the underlying reason behind such problems.
