Hou vows strict sexual harassment prevention measures (Courtesy CEC livestream)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Hou Yu-ih, presidential candidate of the Kuomintang (KMT), vowed Tuesday (Dec. 26) to strictly enforce sexual harassment prevention measures if elected and demanded "zero tolerance" on financial and sexual misconduct among officials.
Hou criticized the opposing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for being embroiled in recent sexual scandals, dubbing it the "Peach Blossom Party."
In utilizing the term traditionally used to describe a woman's beauty, Hou poked fun at the DPP for attracting unwanted attention in their handling of the misconduct within their camp.
Speaking at the policy presentation meeting, Hou also highlighted plans to empower women and alleviate the burden of home care.
He proposed increasing the proportion of women in government and corporate decision-making to at least 30%.
Proposals also include expansions on health care for women and children.
Contrarily, Hou pointed out, during DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's tenure as Premier, women constituted only 20% of cabinet members, while only a quarter of the minority cabinet under former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je were women.
With the countdown to the 2024 presidential election underway, the scene is set between KMT's Hou, DPP's Lai, and Taiwan People's Party's (TPP) Ko, each of whom had their second policy presentation meetings.
Each candidate is allowed three turns to address their policies during each meeting, with each speaking opportunity lasting for 10 minutes.
