DPP‘s Hsiao returns to hometown, vows to serve Taiwan (TVBS News)
CHANGHUA (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice-presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim returned to her hometown, Changhua County's Hemei Township on Tuesday (Dec. 26) and vowed to assume the responsibility of contributing to Taiwan.
Hsiao met her relatives from the Xiao clan and was greeted by locals enthusiastically. Banners supporting Hsiao were visible throughout her ancestral home in celebration of her return.
Hsiao said her father grew up in Hemei Township under the care of its villagers. After obtaining his doctorate, he chose to return to Taiwan to serve his country.
Hsiao stated that she, too, is destined to serve Taiwan, as the obligation originated from the blessings and support of hometown relatives. Over the years, she has felt an increasing affinity with the local people.
Her mission, Hsiao stated, is to strengthen the diplomatic ties between Taiwan and the United States. She became emotional when local relatives presented her with food, gifts, and childhood photographs.
Hsiao emphasized that Hemei Township is her second home. She thanked the Xiao clan for their unwavering support and assistance in her endeavors, from her candidacy in Taipei to Hualien.
Hsiao encouraged locals to continue supporting DPP legislative candidates Chen Hsiu-pao, Huang Shiou-fang, and Chen Su-yueh. Despite the challenges of the election, she believes she can count on their support.
With the enduring love of her fellow villagers and the support of the Xiao clan, Hsiao expressed confidence in the DPP's ability to secure the Taiwanese vote, promising to do more for Taiwan after the election.
