TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's total credit card spending for 2023 is projected to reach a historic high of over NT＄4 trillion, while consumers under 30 in Taiwan have an annual average credit card transaction amount of NT＄1.11 million, the National Credit Card Center (NCCC) reported.
Meanwhile, Individuals aged 40 to 60, who account for more than 57% of the top-level consumers using cards, are crucial customers for each card-issuing institution, according to data from the Center.
These elite spenders, who outstrip the average consumer, sport a half-year spending average of NT＄810,000. Among them, women mainly use their credit cards to purchase fashion and luxury items, while men favor motor vehicle products.
Consumers under 40 demonstrated a fervent consumption frequency, averaging over 180 transactions per card during the first half of 2023.
Regarding regional distribution, cardholders mainly reside in the six municipalities, with Taipei and New Taipei leading the way. Combined, these two regions account for 46% of cardholders; among the 16 counties and cities, Hsinchu County and Hsinchu City claim the largest share, totaling over 6%.
As for credit card brands in circulation, most elite spenders use VISA cards, accounting for 51% of the total. In contrast, American Express cards make up only 3% of the total. However, they boast the highest spending, with an average consumption of over NT＄1.3 million per card in six months.
