Ko accuses DPP, KMT of exploiting China relations for votes (Courtesy of Ko‘s YouTube)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Ko Wen-je, Taiwan's People Party (TPP) presidential candidate, asserted on Monday (Dec. 25) that both the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Kuomintang (KMT) aim to use China to their advantage in the 2024 presidential election.
In his online platform, "KP TV," Ko stated that while the DPP would incite anti-China sentiments for votes, the KMT acts completely opposite by strengthening ties with China.
Ko further suggested that if the KMT comes to power, Taiwan might be directly "bought by China," sparking heated discussions.
He stressed: "I often speak of 'Taiwan's autonomy and cross-strait peace.' We all certainly hope for cross-strait peace, but the prerequisite is that Taiwan must have the capacity for autonomy."
"I've said from the beginning that we must spend where necessary on our defense budget. Moreover, we must first strengthen our strategic thinking," he added.
Ko concluded in the online show that choosing him would be safer as it could guarantee peace and also offer an opportunity for Taiwan's sovereignty.
