TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a cold surge advisory for 13 municipalities on Christmas Day, forecasting a significant temperature drop by Monday evening (Dec. 25).

The advisory covers New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung City, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Yilan County, and Kinmen County.

Some areas, including those north of Tainan, Yilan, and Kinmen, may see temperatures dip below 10 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning (Dec. 26).

The cold air mass should weaken as the day progresses, leading to a gradual warming trend, with temperatures expected to reach over 20 degrees Celsius.

The CWA predicts the northeast monsoon's strengthening on Thursday (Dec. 28), causing a brief temperature drop, mainly on the windward side of northern Taiwan. This effect is anticipated to be short-lived, with milder temperatures returning on Friday (Dec. 29) and Saturday (Dec. 30).

However, weather forecasters caution about the possibility of another cold air mass moving south on Sunday (Dec. 31), potentially lowering temperatures in northern Taiwan.
