TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Unpaid leave figures in Taiwan have risen by 359 employees since Dec. 18, reaching a total of 9,935, according to data from the Ministry of Labor released on Monday (Dec. 25).

The surge is primarily attributed to the manufacturing sector, which is grappling with a decline in orders.

Among other highlights, approximately 170 unpaid leave cases originate from a single sports equipment manufacturing company. Alsp, the Hsinchu Science Park, renowned for its semiconductor component manufacturers, has reported around 50 workers on unpaid leave.

Currently, 382 businesses have reduced working hours in response to the economic impact, affecting 9,935 workers. In the Hsinchu Science Park alone, a semiconductor component manufacturer employing over 600 individuals has placed 50 workers on reduced shifts.

Other industries, including support services, wholesale, and retail, have experienced relatively minor changes during this period.
