TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taiwan Youth Association for Democracy (TYAD) on Monday (Dec. 25) reported the successful progression of their fundraising initiative, aimed at facilitating students' travel back home for the 2024 Elections.
Starting on Dec. 8, the fundraiser's goal is to mitigate travel expenses for young voters, thereby reducing their absence in elections, according to TYAD Managing Director Alvin Chang.
The initiative allows youth to travel by bus for just NT$113, supported by nearly 1,200 donors who have contributed over NT$670,000. The project includes 31 bus routes, ferry service from Kaohsiung to Penghu, and flights to Kinmen.
With almost 700 seats available, flight tickets are already sold out, and limited ferry tickets remain. Buses will leave from 10 university campuses and train stations across municipalities, involving 27 stops and the cooperation of over 40 student associations.
Should donations reach NT$700,000, three additional routes will be added, and if contributions exceed NT$800,000, 10 more routes will be introduced.
The fundraising period concludes on Dec. 29, 2023, with the association urging public support to meet the voting needs of more Taiwanese youth.
The upcoming presidential and legislative elections, scheduled for Jan. 13, have garnered significant attention, propelling the success of the fundraiser.
