TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) decided, in a council meeting on Thursday (Dec. 21), to halt student admissions to its Industrial Education department starting from the 2025 academic term, while maintaining its master's and doctoral programs.

To safeguard students' educational rights, the NTNU Office of Academic Affairs has proposed three solutions.

First, guidance will be provided to students seeking transfers. Second, the department will continue offering courses and will extend the student enrollment limit to meet graduate credit requirements. Lastly, the department will retain three specialized courses to nurture future educators.

The department's faculty and assistants will remain unaffected; current teachers will continue to instruct in the master's and doctoral programs, and assistants will continue their service, affirmed the NTNU.

Taiwan's Ministry of Education (MOE) Administrative Deputy Minister Lin Teng-chiao expressed the hope that despite its shift towards research-oriented programs, the Department of Industrial Education at NTNU will still collaborate in training industrial education teachers with other departments.
