YUNLIN (TVBS News) —On Tuesday (Dec. 19), Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim stressed the importance of embracing the "Taiwanese spirit" to develop effective foreign policies, understanding Taiwan's strengths and needs, and bolstering defense forces to actively foster international friendships.
Hsiao's first campaign stop in Yunlin was met with enthusiastic reception as she rallied support for the DPP.
Speaking at National Formosa University and Tongxin Park, Hsiao reiterated the commitment of the "Lai-Hsiao ticket" (with presidential candidate Lai Ching-te) to continue President Tsai Ing-wen’s policies, defending Taiwan's democracy and freedom while promoting development and diplomatic relations. She emphasized that under their leadership, Taiwan would experience steady and stable progress.
Students at National Formosa University engaged Hsiao in a multilingual question-and-answer session, asking questions in Mandarin, English, and Taiwanese. Hsiao responded fluently, offering assurance to an Indonesian student’s concerns about foreign graduates' employment prospects in Taiwan, insisting on a positive approach and assistance for such matters.
Hsiao also highlighted Taiwan's kindness and contributions, along with global support, as factors ensuring that the international community will not isolate Taiwan. Reiterating the need for self-sufficiency, she underscored Taiwan's commitment to maintaining values of equity, justice, and democratic peace.
