TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese badminton star Tai Tzu-ying shared her reflection on social media on Monday (Dec. 18), expressing disappointment with her performance in the second half of 2023 but also gratitude towards her team and fans.
In her post, Tai admitted, "The entire latter half of the year has not been ideal; I have faced difficulties, and I have not met any of the goals set for myself, which has been very disappointing..."
Despite her struggles, Tai triumphed a day earlier at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals, beating Spanish shuttler Carolina Marin to claim the women's singles title.
This victory was Tai's fourth World Tour Finals title and a beautiful conclusion to a challenging year.
Before the year-end event, of the 18 matches she played in 2023, Tai had only secured two titles: the Asian Championships and the Chinese Taipei Open.
Concerns were raised about her form, but Sunday's win quelled any doubts about her state.
Tai also wrote about the challenges leading up to the championship, stating, "This match was not easy, especially since injury meant I lacked a lot of training and had to learn to take things easier."
