EVA Air pilots consider strike over bonus, pay issues (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taoyuan Union of Pilots (TUP) announced on Sunday (Dec. 17) that EVA Air pilots, its members, will vote on a strike starting next Friday.
In response, EVA Air stated that it has received the union's demands regarding year-end bonuses and salary raises and is carefully evaluating them.
TUP claims that EVA Air's cost-cutting measures and talent loss are leading to safety incidents. They plan to hold a press conference on Monday in front of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) to voice their concerns.
Despite record profits, EVA Air has faced criticism for aggressive cost-cutting, resulting in many national pilots leaving. An investigation revealed the use of illegal brokers to hire foreign pilots, raising safety concerns.
TUP holds the MOTC responsible and demands EVA Air's improvement within a set deadline. If unmet, they propose reducing the airline's flight rights.
