Ko Wen-je: 70% in Taiwan reject KMT return to power (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People’s Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je contended on Saturday (Dec. 16) that while 65% of people in Taiwan want a political party turnover, there is also a 70% majority that does not wish to see the Kuomintang (KMT) in power.
Addressing media reports about a possible strategic voting effect, Ko emphasized the forgotten point that "approximately 70% of Taiwanese do not want the KMT to take office."
Ko suggested that further polls should be conducted to see exactly how many people want the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to step down and how many do not wish the KMT to assume power.
He referenced the 2022 Taipei mayoral election of Vivian Huang as evidence of Taiwan having developed a true third force in politics.
On his Saturday trip to Kaohsiung, Ko is campaigning for the party's sole legislative candidate in southern Taiwan, Tseng Yin-li.
