TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) "Lai-Hsiao ticket" edged ahead in the presidential race according to a new poll out Saturday (Dec. 16) showing a 32.7% support rate, while the Kuomintang's (KMT) "Hou-Kong ticket" trailed closely with 29%.

The China Times survey suggests that if the strategic voting phenomenon known as "strategic voting" takes place, the Taiwan People's Party's (TPP) "Ko-Ying ticket" would lose 7.3% of their current 19.7% support, potentially boosting Hou-Kong to a tie with Lai-Xiao at 32.7%.

Compared to China Times' first wave of polls released in November, the Lai-Xiao ticket has increased its base by 4.4%, while the Hou-Kong duo witnessed a modest rise of 0.8%. Support for the Ko-Ying pair, however, has seen a notable decrease of 4.6%.

The poll utilized landline and mobile phone interviews on Dec. 13 and 14, surveying 1,088 Taiwanese citizens aged 20 and above.
