TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The spokesperson for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate Lai Ching-te's campaign office, on Saturday (Dec 9), said the inaccurate and malicious media reports about the upcoming presidential debates are regrettable.

Spokesperson Kuo Ya-hui demanded corrections from outlets publishing claims that some media were favored during the presidential debates and allegations of a coalition aiming to gang up on fellow candidates Hou Yu-ih and Ko Wen-je.

Kuo emphasized that the decision for 11 media organizations to host the debates jointly is a longstanding practice, resulting from two rounds of negotiations without interference from any campaign offices.

Furthermore, Kuo highlighted the misinformation circulated by China Times, one of the debate co-hosts, despite being fully involved in the meetings. She has called on China Times to issue an immediate correction and apologize to its readers.

The 2024 presidential election debates are slated to be held at Public Television Service (PTS) on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m., with the vice presidential debates tentatively scheduled for Jan. 1, 2024, also at 2 p.m.

Central News Agency (CNA), China Times, Liberty Times, United Daily News, SET News, Taiwan Television, Formosa Television, Chinese Television System (CTS), Mirror Media, TVBS News, and Public Television Service are the 11 media entities collaboratively organizing the debates, which will be produced and broadcasted by PTS, including comprehensive sign language services for the hearing impaired.
