Dubai gets a taste of Taiwan with authentic douhua

DUBAI (TVBS News) — A taste of Taiwan has made its way to the heart of Dubai, where a near-replica of Taipei's Yongkang Street style flavor has been attracting expatriates and introducing the authentic taste of Taiwanese douhua (tofu pudding) to the world.

According to TVBS News, the Dubai douhua shop has gone to great lengths to ensure authenticity, importing nearly all ingredients and decor directly from Taiwan. 

Dennis Chang, a Taiwanese national, is the mastermind behind this culinary venture, continuing a family legacy of over 30 years in the art of douhua-making. Chang's vision is to showcase Taiwan's unique culture and cuisine while providing a taste of home for Taiwanese residents in Dubai.

In commitment to preserving the genuine taste of his hometown, Chang predominantly imports ingredients from Taiwan. Nevertheless, he sometimes sources materials from neighboring countries to manage costs without compromising quality.

The shop's ambiance, adorned with Taiwanese elements from interior design to knickknacks, is a source of pride for Chang. He even boasts that the shaved ice machine used in the shop was shipped from Taiwan to ensure an authentic Taiwanese experience.

Patrons of the Taiwanese douhua shop in Dubai, particularly those from the Chinese community, have expressed their fondness for the desserts offered. They shared that the shop may be the sole Taiwanese dessert establishment in Dubai, providing not just treats but comfort to those longing for a piece of home.
