TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced on Thursday (Dec. 7) that a strong northeastern monsoon has brought cooler temperatures across northern and northeastern Taiwan.

Western parts of Taiwan are likely to experience significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, the CWA added.

The CWA has compared the intensity of the current monsoon to that of a continental cold air mass and is advising residents to add layers and pay attention to keeping warm to adjust to the cooler weather.

As the chilling effects take hold, the forecast indicates that central and northern Taiwan, alongside the northeastern regions, will see low temperatures ranging from 14 to 15 degrees Celsius; other areas are expected to experience lows of 17 to 19 degrees Celsius.

By Friday, the northeast monsoon is predicted to weaken, resulting in a daytime increase in temperature.

Despite the persisting large diurnal temperature range in the western half of Taiwan, most areas will enjoy clear to partly cloudy skies. However, isolated, brief showers are anticipated in the southeastern parts of the island, said the CWA.
