TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan People's Party (TPP) presidential candidate Ko Wen-je on Wednesday (Dec. 6) set a target of winning a combined total of 10 seats in the upcoming elections for the Legislative Yuan.

Regarding foreign affairs, Ko plans to maintain the course set by current President Tsai Ing-wen. However, he intends to adopt a friendlier stance in cross-strait relations while emphasizing the ongoing development of Taiwan's self-defense capabilities.

Despite claiming a "deep green" heart (pro-Democratic Progressive Party)—a term signaling support for Taiwan's independence—Ko relates his experience as a physician to his governance philosophy, aiming for a non-partisan approach.

The key to his election success, Ko believes, lies with the young voters' turnout. If elected, he aspires to make Taiwan a "normal country."

Ko has complained about being blocked by traditional media but is countering with his media platform, "KP TV," and recent interviews on various programs to enhance his media presence.

The vice-presidential slot on the TPP's ticket goes to Cynthia Wu, who secured the majority of the party central committee's votes from among four candidates Ko originally had in mind.

Ko hinted at the possibility of inviting Terry Gou, founder of Foxconn, to help with the campaign, following economic policy discussions with Gou's team.

Refraining from providing estimated vote numbers, Ko mentioned that around 5.5 million votes are needed to win the presidency.

He also suggested that if the TPP and the Kuomintang (KMT) part ways, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) might gain a majority in the Legislative Yuan.
