TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Finance Minister Chuang Tsui-yun projected on Monday (Dec. 4) that the nation's total export value for this year is expected to break through the unprecedented US$400 billion mark.

Chuang stated that Taiwan's exports for the first ten months of the year have reached a combined total of US$355.1 billion.

Should exports surpass US$400 billion, it would mark the third-highest record in Taiwan's history, trailing only behind the years 2021 and 2022.

The optimistic outlook comes amid signs of resilience in Taiwan's export sector. In September, Taiwan witnessed a return to positive growth in export rates.

However, October's figures showed a slight pullback, with export values registering at US$38.1 billion, down from US$39.9 billion during the same time last year. This decline signals the first dip after several months of strong export performance.

Chuang advised industry leaders and relevant government departments to pay close attention to global economic factors that may impact exports, including inflation and the interest rate hike cycle. She emphasized the need for cautious optimism regarding exports in the fourth quarter and into the next year.
