TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — Minister of the Interior Lin Yu-chang visited the Taoyuan Police Department on Friday (Dec. 1) afternoon, urging all officers to exert utmost efforts in maintaining order and cracking down on bribery ahead of the upcoming 2024 elections.

In preparation for the general elections on Jan. 13, the Taiwanese government has been actively promoting nationwide anti-fraud measures.

During his visit, Minister Lin highlighted the potential for foreign forces to disrupt societal order through the spread of false or misleading information.

Lin called for increased vigilance in intelligence gathering by the police and prompt investigation and clarification of any uncovered illegal activities.

Minister Lin praised the Taoyuan Police Department for successfully preventing 1,176 fraud cases from January to October this year, intercepting a total of over NT$689 million, ranking them first among the six special municipalities in Taiwan.

With the elections just a month and a half away, Lin underscored the critical role of the police in deterring election bribery, online gambling, and fake news.

Lin also indicated that the central government places great importance on reinforcing the national police force and enhancing police welfare.

The Minister has instructed the National Police Agency to compile the needs of various police stations to ensure they are adequately met.
