Sadaharu Oh roots for Taiwan in Asia Baseball Championship (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — On the eve of the Asian Baseball Championship at the Taipei Dome, Taiwanese-Japanese baseball legend Sadaharu Oh expressed his wish on Saturday (Dec. 2) for the Taiwan team to triumph over South Korea in Sunday's game.
Oh shared his aspirations for the future of Asian baseball, stating, "I hope Taiwan can definitely win against South Korea tomorrow. I also hope that three years from now, during the World Baseball Classic (WBC), the team from Japan and Taiwan will join hands to enter the finals in the U.S."
"It is my hope to see Taiwan participate in the final showdown," Oh said in an opening remark at the opening ceremony earlier that day.
He praised the facilities of the Taipei Dome, favorably comparing it to the sporting arenas of Tokyo and Fukuoka in Japan.
Oh believes that players who compete in such an exceptional environment are likely to feel more confident, thus enhancing their ability to win glory for their country and Asia.
Reflecting on his own experiences in the Tokyo Dome 35 years ago, Oh empathized with today's players and suggested that a great setting can nurture heroes.
He also predicted that with the presence of the Taipei Dome, the future of Taiwanese baseball is set to improve.
