KMT Hou, Jaw blast rivals on urban mismanagement (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih and his running mate Jaw Shaw-kong targeted their opponents from the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Friday (Dec. 1) over allegations of poor urban administration.
Hou, along with Jaw, criticized TPP's presidential candidate Ko Wen-je for his eight-year tenure as mayor of Taipei, claiming no significant progress in the Shezidao area.
They also slammed DPP's presidential hopeful Lai Ching-te for allowing the burial of furnace slag in agricultural land in his stronghold of Tainan, resulting in pollution and social issues.
The KMT duo showcased their administration achievements at Wugu Summer Greenland, discussing the handling and improvements of the Wugu Garbage Dump Hill.
Hou claimed he transformed the garbage dump into a “gold mine” within two years, in contrast to Lai's term in Tainan, which they criticized as having turned “gold into garbage.”
Hou recounted that the Wugu Garbage Dump Hill, situated in a floodplain control zone, had been improperly managed for thirty years. However, with his background in public administration and strong execution skills, he led the city government's 22 departments to collaborate effectively, ultimately converting the garbage dump into an eco-park.
The KMT candidates pledged to bring change to Taiwan, asserting that the people need a leader with courage, capability, and execution power. Hou expressed his readiness to lead his team and the Republic of China (ROC), Taiwan, toward further progress.
