TAIPEI (TVBS News) — On Saturday (Nov. 25), the Kuomintang (KMT) vice presidential candidate Jaw Shaw-kong sought support during the R.O.C. Central Military Institute and Academy Alumni Association's representatives assembly, declaring that, if elected, he would not be a silent vice president, but a vocal advocate for issues.
Jaw stressed the importance of the upcoming 2024 election as a critical choice between war and peace and advocated for ballots to be cast in favor of the KMT to ensure political integrity and cross-strait peace.
He appealed to KMT supporters, commonly referred to as the "Blue Camp," to concentrate their votes to guarantee victory. Jaw argued that only a KMT victory could build a hopeful future for Taiwan and peaceful cross-strait relations.
Addressing the partnership with KMT presidential candidate Hou Yu-ih, Jaw expressed that their strengths are complementary, with Hou focusing on the central and southern regions while Jaw concentrates on the Taipei, New Taipei, Keelung, and Taoyuan areas.
Jaw pointed out that the slogan "Vote for the DPP and the youth will go to the battlefield" effectively cost the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) votes from young people in the previous local elections.
He mentioned that DPP’s presidential candidate Lai Ching-te – whom he sarcastically referred to as a "descendant of Taiwan independence supporters" – is apprehensive about the next election.
Jaw accused the DPP of exacerbating cross-strait tensions while in power and yet promising the public that there would not be a war.
If the "Hou-Jaw ticket" wins, the veteran politician plans to reinstate the Special Investigation Division (SPD) to probe into potential corruption issues related to the procurement of masks, vaccines, eggs, and submarines.
He questioned Lai's self-proclaimed role as a creator and protector of peace.
