Hsiao Bi-khim prioritizes DPP support expansion over alliances (TVBS News)
TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim stressed the importance of the expansion of support for the DPP's platform rather than a focus on a possible cooperation within the opposition parties on Thursday (Nov. 23).
Speaking at an event held at NTUH International Convention Center where international media were present, Hsiao's comments came amid inquiries from Japanese media regarding potential collaboration between the Kuomintang (KMT) and Taiwan People's Party (TPP) camps.
Addressing fluctuating poll numbers in Taiwan since the lifting of martial law and the numerous presidential elections that followed, Hsiao stated, "Our polls have had their ups and downs. For us, the most important thing is to continue expanding the strength of our support base."
Reflecting on her decade-long efforts in Hualien, Hsiao spoke of her profound connection with the region and emphasized the common ideals and values she shares with DPP presidential candidate Lai Ching-te far outweighs any personal differences between them.
The duo, referred to as the Lai-Hsiao pairing, views the election as a battle to further protect Taiwan's democratic values, progress democracy, and strengthen the nation's resilience to meet future challenges.
Following the session, Hsiao is scheduled to engage in both online and in-person interactions with various groups, arranged by the campaign headquarters.
These sessions are intended to discuss new issues and draw on Hsiao’s experience with international diplomacy.
